Armed robbers kill petrol filling attendant

Winneba(C/R), Oct.10, GNA - Armed robbers on Monday evening attacked the Dalazy Oil Company Filling Station at Winneba Junction Roundabout, killed one of the attendants, Patrick Effum and wounded the Station Manager, Mr Isaac Effum.

Mr Nicholas Gasu, Deputy Superintendent of Police in-charge of Winneba District Police Command told the Ghana News Agency at Winneba on Tuesday that in the evening when Mr Effum was returning from the washroom, he saw some armed robbers wearing marks emerging from the nearby bush to the station.

Mr Gasu said the robbers started firing indiscriminately and some of the bullets hit his thigh and was rushed to the Winneba Government Hospital where he is responding to treatment.

He said the robbers entered the office, opened the safe and took away their daily sales.

DSP Gasu said on Tuesday morning the attendant was found dead with gunshots wound in the bush nearby the station and the corpse deposited at Winneba Government Hospital mortuary for autopsy.

He said the police had intensified their search for the robbers while investigations continued.

DSP Gasu said this was the second armed robbery case recorded this year since April and assured the public that the police would intensify its operations.
