Armed robbers rob fuel station of 40 million cedis

Tema, Dec. 22, GNA - Seven armed robbers over the weekend attacked the Shell Fuel station and Mart on the Tema General Hospital road and made away with more than 40 million cedis in cash.

Mr Emmanuel Wallace Ofoe, General Manager of the station, told the Ghana News Agency on Monday that the hooded robbers who were armed with locally made pistols, called at the fuel station around 2000 hours to buy 100,000 cedis petrol into their vehicle, a BMW saloon car. He said after they had been served, two of them seized the cash container from one of the attendants amid firing of warning shots. They also ordered the rest of the workers to lie with their faces down under armed guard by two other robbers.

Mr Ofoe said three other robbers also entered the Shell shop, pulled a pistol on the sales girls, ordering them to surrender the proceeds from the sales.

He said the robbers hit one of the sales managers of the shop on his head for being reluctant to give in to their demand, adding that the victim gave up and showed them where the location of the money box after seeing blood oozing out from his head.

The robbers were said to have picked the whole box and picked some prepaid phone cards estimated at about seven million cedis before driving away in their BMW car through the Bengali hospital road. The Tema Regional Police confirmed the story and said police patrol teams would be deployed at filling stations to facilitate uninterrupted service at those stations. No arrest has been made yet.
