Armed robbers storm Pramso and rob three stores

Pramso (Ash), Sept 7, GNA - A gang of four armed robbers at dawn on Sunday, stormed Pramso near Jachie in the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma District and succeeded in robbing three stores of cash and goods worth about 10 million cedis.

Madam Akua Serwaa, one of the victims, told the Ghana News Agency that about 2 AM, a Good Samaritan and an eyewitness to the robberies told her that her shop had been looted by robbers using a taxicap. She said the robbers took away a battery operated cassette recorder, assorted soap, provisions and 150,000 cedis cash, all totalling about six million cedis.

Madam Felicia Mensah, the second victim, said the robbers made away with assorted soap, sardines, provisions and cash of 30,000 cedis from her shop and that the goods and the cash totalled about four million cedis.

She said the robbers attempted taking away her tabletop freezer but it could not get space on the taxi.

The third victim could not immediately be contacted to know what was stolen from her store as she was out of town.

Mr Kwame Boakye, the assemblyman for Pramso, said the victims refused to report the robberies to the Jachie police because the police did nothing about two previous robberies, which were reported to them some three years back.

He said the people suspected collusion between some people in the town and the robbers and that plans were afoot for the formation of a neighbourhood watch committee.

Mr Boakye said some citizens had volunteered to form the committee and had already been trained and were waiting for its inauguration. When the Jachie police were contacted, Chief Inspector Nana Sarpong said in spite of their initial reluctance to report the robberies, the victims had finally reported to the office and that investigations were being conducted.
