Tema, Dec. 19, GNA - Three hundred and ninety-six recruits from the Army Recruit Training School (ARTS) Shai Hills on Friday passed out after 26 weeks training.
The passing out parade was formed by four contingents under the command of Recruit George Awatey.
The Reviewing Officer was Brigadier Peter Augustine Blay, Director-General Personnel Administration, Armed Forces, Burma Camp. The Commanding Officer of ARTS, Lieutenant Colonel Musa Waja accompanied him.
Addressing the recruits, Brig. Blay said the 26 weeks training marked the beginning of their journey to join the Ghana Armed Forces and pointed out that the physical and moral training was designed to make them professional soldiers.
He cautioned them to maintain their physical and mental alertness, so that "you will not be found wanting in your duties at all times. "You must discard the wrong notion that the Army is an institution where you enter to grab money. Professional army is a call to sacrifice to defend your nation that is why your loyalty is most important." Brig. Blay called on them to show greater respect the officers, and this they could do if they went by the professional code of ethnical behaviour.
He urged them to show professionalism by being industrious and learning hard to be efficient.
Recruit George Awatey won the Best All Round Recruit Award. In another development, a short farewell parade was held in honour of Lt. Col. Musa Waja, who is on transfer to the Army Head Quarters, Accra.
