The National Democratic Congress in Agona West Constituency is calling on the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Madam Cynthia Mamle Morrison who doubles as the Member of Parliament for Agona West Constituency to apologize to her constituents for sharing expired food items as relief packages to them during the lockdown days.
In a press conference addressed by the Constituency Secretary, Mr Emmanuel Korley said, “EXPIRED ICE CREAM DISTRIBUTION
Whatever is worth doing, they say, is worth doing right. So we cannot countenance shoddy, substandard and inferior goods under the guise of showing care for the people- that’s unacceptable and reprehensible.
Therefore, this press conference is not just to shame and call out the MP Cum Gender Minister for sharing expired ice cream on Sunday, 24th May, 2020 but to draw the attention of the people to be very careful of future donations to prevent the recurrence of consuming expired food items and to also prevent many unsuspecting children and women from consuming the unwholesome ice cream, which was swiftly done when our attention was drawn to the items being expired.
For us in the NDC, Politics is not the destruction of one’s opponents to win political power using subterfuge, sophistry and chicanery but rather it is the construction of the destiny of one’s people, lobbying for meaningful development like good health care, quality education, access to water and electricity and provision of sustainable jobs which is consistent with our egalitarian ethos.
Consequently, we first and foremost took it upon ourselves to visit all the communities namely; Saalem, Dasuenim, Ankyease, Nkubease to draw the attention of the people to the expired ice cream in other to help protect the children from the harms of consuming the expired ice creams and fortunately, we succeeded in retrieving some of the items, with many others also regrettably already consuming the items- some of which are currently in our possession as evidence.
