The two suspects arrested in connection with Thursday’s afternoon shooting and robbery incident at Lapaz a suburb of Accra, are currently undergoing interrogation at the Accra-Regional Police Command, sources have confirmed to mynewsgh.com.
It has been established that the two who used an unregistered motorbike in carrying out their operation in broad daylight are Nigerians, according to the latest information.
They were arrested at a hideout on Thursday evening between Mallam and Kasoa after abandoning the unregistered Hyndai Elantra vehicle they took from a mechanic at Ablekuma Fan Milk and trying conceal themselves until the issue dies down.
According to police account, they robbed someone who was coming out from a bank in front of Las Palmas restaurant and in their bid to flee, opened fire on the unprovoked cops who were also on community patrols thinking they had heard of their activities and were there to arrest them.
They tried using the bike of the killed police officer to escape from the scene after the second one who was shot run away, but when all attempts to start the ignition failed, they managed to snatch the vehicle at gun point and fled in a Rambo style as residents watched on in shock.
Police are still tight-lipped over the matter and indicate that it is only after interrogation they will be able to confirm if the two suspects are indeed those who shot the cops leading to the death of one.
