Artisans at the Darkuman Cable and Wireless site are urgently appealing to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to step in and resolve an escalating conflict with Ghana Post over land ownership.

In an interview, Union Chairman Alhaji Alhasan Suleiman highlighted the challenges faced by the artisans, who allege that Ghana Post has been using land guards and armed personnel to intimidate them.

"They are provoking us with land guards, with guns," Suleiman stated.

"We don't want to create any chaos. Hence, we are calling on the government to intervene."

The artisans argue that their eviction from the site would severely impact their livelihoods and the local economy.

"Leaving here will not help our business," Suleiman added.

"We are asking the government to intervene and secure the land for us to continue our businesses. If the government cannot help in securing the land for us, we are appealing for an alternative area or land for us to relocate."

David Arthur, the Union Secretary, provided additional context, noting that the dispute dates back to 2017, sating efforts they have made to ensure that the matter is resolved.

"We wrote a petition to the President since Ghana Post is a government entity. Businesses around here create huge employment opportunities for the youth, and any attempt to take over the land from us will not only affect us but will affect the nation as well," Arthur emphasized that the artisans' current financial struggles, which make purchasing new land infeasible.

He believes government intervention is crucial for them to continue their operations and contribute to national development through tax payments.

The artisans at Darkuman Cable and Wireless are hopeful that their plea will receive prompt attention to prevent further disruption to their businesses and the broader community.
