One hundred and thirty-five Artisans from 13 Districts of the Upper East Region are undergoing a-five day training programme in Bolgatanga.

The programme is being organized by the Association of Building and Civil Engineering Contractors of Ghana (ABCECG) in collaboration with the Council for Technical and Vocational Education Training (COTVET), with sponsorship from the World Bank and DANIDA.

Speaking at the opening ceremony on Monday, the Regional Chairman of ABCECG, Mr Bukari Ayamga, expressed optimism that the participants, which attracted artisans such as plumbers, masons, carpenters, steel benders, foremen and office administrative staff in the building industry would be empowered with the requisite skills needed on the job market.

He said many companies that undertook construction works in the Upper East Region had to rely on artisans from other regions for the work because majority of the artisans in the region did not have the requisite skills.

Mr Ayamga, therefore, expressed the hope that the training programme would empower the artisans and also help curb rural urban migration in the Region.

Ms Fati Issahaku, Officer in charge of Skills Development at COTVET, stated that similar training programmes had been organized in the other regions and mentioned occupational hazards, technical skills and basic skills, as some of the topics treated.
