Artist jailed 18 months for stealing

Ho, April 11, GNA-A Ho circuit court, presided over by Mr. Emmanuel Siammeh has sentenced a local artist to 18 months imprisonment in hard labour for stealing. Selasi Kumi, who was convicted on his own plea broke down in tears after the sentence.

Police Chief Inspector Peter Insaidoo told the court that Kumi on January 15, this year sneaked into the dormitory of the Ho Nursing Training College and stole various items belonging to the students. He said Kumi stole mobile phones, gas cylinders and amount of 150 Ghana cedis.

Inspector Insaidoo said Kumi arrested when one of the student spotted him standing by gas a cylinder she stole from the dormitory while waiting for taxi and raised an alarm. He said the students including their male counterparts arrested the accused and handed him over to the Police. Inspector Insaidoo said the students identified various items in the possession of the accused as theirs. The police said Kumi confessed having stolen the items but pleaded for forgiveness.
