Asamankese chiefs pledge support for sanitation day

The chiefs of Asamankese have pledged to ensure that their communities participate in the national sanitation day exercise.

They made the pledge when the Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Antwi-Boasiako Sekyere paid a courtesy call on them at the Asamankese Palace, as part of his tour to the West Akim Municipality.

Assuring the Minister, the Benkumhene of Asamankese, Nana Kwame Arko III said, they are going to do everything within their power as chiefs to involve all and sundry in the upcoming sanitation day and the subsequent once.

He said it was time to rid the communities of filth to help reduce the money spend on the treatment of malaria, cholera and other diseases associated with filth.

Nana Arko explained that, the education to sensitize the public on keeping the environment clean has not been encouraging, and that, it is his hope that the introduction of the national sanitation day would be taken seriously by everybody in the country “ so we can get rid of the filth”.

Barimah Agyei Konadu Yiadom, Chief of Asikasu, appealed to the Minister and the Municipal Chief Executive, to help provide the West Akim Municipality with a University, Nursing Training College and College of Education.

Mr Antwi-Boasiako Sekyere, the Eastern Regional Minister, urged the chiefs to lead the sanitation exercise to encourage the youth and elderly in the communities to participate in cleaning the environment.

He advised them to sensitize their people to show interest in the upcoming District Assembly Elections.
