Asamoah Gyan admits he is facing challenges as the captain of the Black Stars but insists he is experienced enough to face these problems head-on and lead the side to success.

The 28-year-old’s leadership qualities has been questioned following Ghana’s disastrous showing at the 2014 World Cup.

Gyan has been blamed for not being able to hold his players in check at the height of their agitation over delayed payment of appearance fees.

There is also a perception that the Al Ain ace does not command total control in the team while some even believe other players are working to undermine his authority for their own selfish interest.

But the ex Sunderland hitman says though he faces these challenges, he is competent enough to deal with them.

“When you are the captain you need to tolerate a lot of things,” he told MTNFootball.com. “You have to be open to dissenting views and you must tolerate all these things.

“I am very patient and use my experience. I also use what I have learnt from previous captains to lead the side.

“80 percent of the team now are young players and therefore there is the need to guide them with my experience.”
