Asankrangwa (W/R), May 22, GNA - Loud boos and jeers from hundreds of teachers greeted a fine of 500,000 cedis imposed by the Asankrangwa Magistrate's court on Friday on a man who severely assaulted a teacher of the Samreboi D/C Junior Secondary School about a month ago. The teachers from Samreboi and Asankrangwa education circuits were at the court to show solidarity with their colleague victim, Mr. Kofi Adade alias Teacher Adade.

The accused, Moro Tankwa, 46, who pleaded guilty to the charge of assault would spent three month in prison if he fails to pay the fine. The Police prosecutor, Inspector Anthony Odoom told the court presided over by Mr. Francis K. Mensah that soon after school hours, Teacher Adade spotted the accused person's son jump through a window to defecate into one of the classrooms.

Teacher Adade chased him and gave him a few lashes for using the classrooms as toilet, but the boy went to report to his parents who did not take kindly to this.

Tankwa, highly annoyed, went to the residence of Teacher Adade on the school compound and severely assaulted him. Mr. Mensah said he was dealing leniently with the accused because his son was said to be mentally ill and warned that he would deal drastically with future offenders.

The teachers registered their dissatisfaction with the judgement with cat calls boos and jeers and threatened to continue with their sit down strike in solidarity with their colleague.
