The Asante-Akim South District Assembly has vowed to strictly enforce its sanitation bye-laws to protect public health and safety.

Mr. De-graft Forkuo, District Chief Executive (DCE), said people must be helped to maintain healthy surroundings and part ways with bad practices.

He said these when he visited Ofoase, as part of a public education tour, in efforts at tackling the poor sanitation conditions in the communities.

The move comes on the back of the launch of the National Sanitation Day by the Local Government and Rural Development Ministry.

Mr. Forkuo announced that the Assembly had received 200 dustbins for distribution to the various communities to assist to prevent littering.

There were also plans, he said, to procure more sanitation equipment, adding that, they were determined to do everything to keep the area clean of filth.

The DCE saluted the chiefs and people in the district for their enthusiastic response to the national sanitation day and said the momentum must be sustained.

He said the turnout of the last national sanitation day on January 3, was impressive in every community in the district, emphasizing that the sense of patriotism put on display was commendable.
