The Asante-Akim South Municipal Assembly has made youth development an urgent priority.

Mr. Alexander Frimpong, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), said it would invest more resources into youth development programmes and activities to empower and make their lives meaningful to the society.

He told journalists at Juaso that they were determined to go the extra mile to equip them with employable skills to create wealth and lift themselves out of poverty.

Mr. Frimpong added that they would open up doors of opportunity to the youth to live their dreams.

He spoke of the collaboration with the Business Advisory Centre (BAC) of the National Board for Small Scale Industries (NBSSI) to expose out-of-school young people to entrepreneurial skills, trades and vocations.

That aside, it had also been giving financial support to students from poor homes, struggling to pay for their tertiary education.

The MCE indicated that incentive packages would also be given to those eager to go into farming.

As part of this, the assembly was nursing one million cocoa seedling, 80 per cent of which, would be supplied to the youth into cocoa growing.

He said there could be no doubt that if the young people had something meaningful doing, they would have no incentive to engage in crimes and other social evils.

He called for them to avail themselves of the programmes being rolled out by assembly to improve their economic situation.
