More communities in the Asante-Akim South District are clamoring for inclusion in the street naming and property addressing project.

The chiefs and people of Yawkwei, Atwedie, Asankare, Obogu and Bompata are eager to get the exercise to be extended to their areas because of the inherent benefits. This comes on the heels of the successful completion of the naming of streets in the district capital, Juaso, by the District Assembly.

Many of those who spoke to Ghana News Agency (GNA) said the project could significantly raise the image of their communities and help to leave lasting impression on the minds of first time visitors.

The other high point of naming streets after illustrious citizens they said is that it would not only immortalise personalities but inspire others to do more to support the development of their communities.

The GNA visited the communities under STAR-Ghana’s sponsored media auditing and tracking of development projects, an initiative launched to put the spotlight on how government’s resources are helping to transform the lives of the people, particularly the rural population.

The goal is to aid transparency, promote accountability and good local governance. Mr Edmund Frimpong, a middle-aged man at Asankare, hailed the government for the project and said he could not wait to see it extended to his community.

He noted that giving names to streets and property addressing, is something long overdue and so everything must be done to make sure that the exercise is not limited to only the district capitals.

He therefore appealed to government to put in more resources to widen the list of beneficiary communities.
