Security analyst Colonel retired Festus Aboagye has described as unfortunate the removal of David Asante-Apeatu as IGP by President Akufo-Addo with just one month left on his contract.

According to him, the president should have, at least, given reasons for the sudden dismissal of the top police chief.

“It is very unfortunate that any senior officer should end his professional career on such a note, without any reason from the President,” he told Francis Abban on the Morning Starr Tuesday.

President Akufo-Addo has asked the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Mr. James Oppong-Boanuh, to act as IGP until a substantive IGP is appointed.

The substantive IGP David Asante-Apeatu was on Monday, 22 July 2019 relieved of his post.

Mr. Asante-Apeatu has proceeded on leave with immediate effect, pending his retirement from the Ghana Police Service on Wednesday, 14th August 2019.

He is due to retire from the Ghana Police Service on Wednesday, 14th August 2019.

“The President thanked him for his many years of service to the country and wished him well in his retirement,” director of communication Eugene Arhin said in the statement.

Oppong-Boanuh was granted a one-year contract extension last year October following his retirement. Until his appointment, Mr. Oppong-Buanuh was the Director-General of Administration
