Asante-Apeatu was taken for granted – Former Executive Secretary

The immediate past Inspector General of Police (IGP) David Asante-Apeatu was taken for a ride by some officers and government appointees, Superintendent Peter Lanchene Tuubo, former Executive Secretary to Mr. Asante-Apeatu who resigned to contest as a parliamentary candidate on the ticket of the opposition National Democratic Congress has said.

Mr. Tuubo told Kwabena Prah Jnr. (The Don) on Ghana Yensom on Accra 100.5FM on Tuesday, 23 July 2019 that Mr. Asante-Apeatu was too caring and had too much love for people.

People around him, he said, capitalized on these character traits which he described as the main weakness of the outgone IGP to take advantage of him.

“He was too caring, he loved humans too much and that was his main weakness,” Mr. Tuubo said.

He added: “People took advantage of that, in this world when you are too caring people take advantage of you and that was what happened to him.”

He further touted the strength of Mr. Asante-Apeatu saying: “One of his greatest strengths is human skills, that you can’t take it away from him. His human relations is good to the extent that you'll work your heart out for him.”

He added: “Let us all support the new person appointed as IGP by the president, we should learn how to support leadership.”

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Monday, 22 July 2019 directed Mr. Asante-Apeatu to “proceed on leave with immediate effect” pending his retirement from the Ghana Police Service on Wednesday, 14 August 2019.

The president thanked him for many years of service to the country and wished him well in his retirement.

Nana Akufo-Addo asked the Deputy IGP, Mr. James Oppong-Boanuh to act as IGP until a substantive IGP is appointed in accordance with the constitution.
