The planned trip of the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to the United States of America and the United Kingdom, which was originally scheduled for this morning, has been indefinitely suspended following the football tragedy that hit the nation yesterday.
The Asantehene was expected to meet potential foreign investors and receive three honorary doctorate degrees during the trip.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu announced his cancelled trip when he visited victims of the tragedy at the 37 Military and the Police Hospitals.
The Asantehene called for the setting up of a committee of enquiry to investigate the accident.
He said this will enable Ghanaians to ascertain whether it was the Police, Sports Administrators, fans or those responsible for security who acted irresponsibly.
The Otumfuo said whoever is found guilty must be made to face the full rigours of the law.
He urged Ghanaians to learn from what has happened in order to avoid a similar situation in the near future.
The Asantehene donated an amount of 20 Million Cedis towards any expenses the 37 Military Hospital might incur due to the disaster.
Meanwhile, our source at the 37 Military Hospital said that family members of the deceased have lined up at the hospital morgue to identify the bodies of those who lost their life after yesterday’s disaster.
At the Ridge Hospital, Photographs of the deceased are being displayed on the notice board for identification.
