Asantehene calls on stakeholders to support educational development

Kumasi, March 5, GNA - Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, has called on corporate bodies and stakeholders to assist in the educational development of the country.

He said education had the potential to break barriers and bring people at par irrespective of their social and economic background to help an emerging economy like Ghana to achieve her development goals. Asantehene made the call in an address read on his behalf by Agyewodin Adu Gyamfi Ampem, Paramount Chief of Acherensua Traditional Area, at an Educational Fair in Kumasi on Thursday. It is under the theme "Securing Your Tomorrow Today", and formed part of activities marking the 10th Anniversary Celebration of the Enstoolment of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene. The fair is to bring all stakeholders in education together to review some of the problems that affected education and find solutions to them.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu, observed that in the absence of natural resources it was knowledge through education that brought developed countries to their present levels.

He said the socio-economic challenges facing the nation could be addressed effectively when the people acquired the relevant skills and expertise to improve their living stdnards.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu said it was against this backdrop that he established the Otumfuo Education Fund to promote the education of the needy but brilliant students, stressing that the fund since its establishment in 1999 had made considerable strides as many unfortunate youth had benefited.

Naval Captain Catherine Haizel (Rtd), Chief Executive Officer of Texon, Event Organizers, pointed out that as a country, Ghana's prosperity, economic and social advancement depended on the quality of manpower development. She said this called for commitment, character and training through education.
