Asantehene donates books to movement

Manso-Nkwanta (Ash), May 17, GNA - The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has donated books worth 15 million cedis to the Blue Angels Brigade, a girls movement at Manso-Nkwanta in the Amansie West District.

The books are to stock the Young Readers NetWork (Y-Net) girls library of the Brigade. The Asantehene's gesture followed an appeal to him by Mrs Joana Appiah-Dwomoh, the Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, who is a patron of the brigade.

Presenting the books on behalf of the Asantehene at Manso-Nkwanta, Nana Bi Kusi-Appiah, Omanhene of Manso-Nkwanta Traditional Area said that the only way the girls can show their gratitude to the Asantehene is for them to achieve academic excellence.

Nana Bi-Kusi asked them make good use of the books and to patronise the library to achieve greater laurels. He appealed to parents to pay attention to the education of their children especially the girl child.

Mr J. Appiah-Minka, District Director of Education commended the Asantehene for his foresight in instituting the Otumfuo Education Fund to assist needy but brilliant children. He also praised the deputy Regional Minister for her assistance to the brigade and expressed the hope that she would continue to promote girl child education in the region.
