Kumasi, April 24, GNA- Mr. Joseph Kwabena Onyinah, Ashanti Regional Director of Education, has lauded Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, for initiating the educational fund, which has significantly improved education delivery, which is the key to manpower development in the country.
He said through the Otumfuo Educational Fund, a lot of
schools in deprived areas had seen infrastructural development in
the form of standard school blocks, libraries, teachers' quarters as
well as incentive packages for teachers. Besides the fund, the educational sector has received a
boost under the Promoting Partnership with Traditional Authorities
Project (PPTAP) which is also under the aegis of Otumfuo. In collaboration with the World Bank, the PPTAP has facilitated
the construction, reconstruction and rehabilitation of 100 primary
school buildings in deprived communities in the Region. Mr. Onyinah, who was speaking in an interview with the
Ghana News Agency (GNA), in Kumasi, on Friday, said teachers'
residential quarters, books and other stationery as well as borehole
water systems had also been provided in beneficiary schools to
enhance teaching and learning. He was full of praise for Otumfuo for not limiting the
fund to only the Ashanti Region but to the whole country, saying
"one thing that has actually moved me about Otumfuo's fund is the
fact that it transcends ethnic and geographical boundaries to allow
children in other regions also to benefit." Mr. Onyinah further stated that many brilliant but needy students had been able to commence, continue and complete their
education through scholarships instituted by the fund. He expressed felicitations to the Otumfuo on his decade
long rule and wished him long life to continue to actualize his vision
for the betterment of the Asante Kingdom.
