As part of efforts to support the activities of inmates at the Kumasi Children’s Home, Asanteman Club of Amsterdam has handed over a fully furnished two classroom block with toilet facilities at a cost of ₵200,000 at a short ceremony in Kumasi yesterday.
The gesture, according to the Association formed part of their commitment to the total wellbeing of under privileged in society. The club which was founded by the late Asantehene, Otumfuo Opoku Ware II also donated an amount of ₵10 million to the Otumfour Educational Fund as their contribution towards the realization of excellent education in the Ashanti region.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony, the Chairman of the Amsterdam based Club, Nana Asamoah-Omono said they were dedicated to providing the very best physical, psychological and spiritual care for school-aged children who are neglected, abused, or in need of supervision especially this at time where children have gathered with their parents at their various houses to celebrate Christmas.
He said it was the vision of the club to provide care for these children without regard for their race, culture, national origin, financial status, or social status and encouraged all other homes in the country to strive to instill individual worth in each child while preparing them for responsible adulthood.
The chairman stated that the club intends providing the children with an opportunity to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ and to respond to it with respect and love. Weekly prayer and bible study meetings will be organized for the inmates in collaboration with the home.
Children, according to Nana Asamoah-Omono shall also have access to preventive and curative health care while providing a well balanced diet meal them as well as educating them on STD’s; especially HIV/AIDS.
