Asantes must re-brand and commercialise funeral events - Spio Gabrah

Former Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr. Ekow Spio-Gabrah is has suggested that the people of Asanteman should consider rebranding and commercialising their funeral events to attract foreign tourists.

According Spio Gabrah, the Asante people have a rich cultural heritage that that has been well preserved and remains relevant in our contemporary society.

The former minister and presidential hopeful was speaking in an exclsuive interview with Abusua FM at an event in Kumasi mark the funeral program of the late Queen of Asante, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa.

According to Spio Gabrah, “the people of Kumasi and Asanteman have a very rich culture and I think they can generate revenue from it if they package it well to attract tourists.”

“They can hold a funeral fair to display all these colourful culture on display here and I can assure you it will attract foreign tourists to Asanteman and this will bring foreign exchange.”

Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa the 16th Asantehemaa passed away last year aged 109. Her burial ceremony which was well attended by dignitaries from around the world.

The late Asantehemaa was the biological mother of Otumfuo Osei Tutu and died at the ripe at 111 years.

She reigned for 42 years and passed on last year.
