Asawase NDC Executive rescind decision

Kumasi, July 3, GNA - The Executive Members of the Asawase Constituency of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kumasi on Friday rescinded their decision to resign from their posts.

A statement signed by Mr Joseph Salifu and Mr Baba Mohammed, Constituency Secretary and Organizer, respectively, and issued in Kumasi on Friday, stated that the Executive Members have with immediate effect taken up their various posts in the interest of the party.

It explained that the decision of the members followed a marathon meeting between them and the leadership of the NDC in which they were impressed upon to bury their differences, forget about the past and take back their posts which they gave up last week.

It would be recalled that the Executive Members resigned en bloc following what they described as unfair treatment meted out to the Member of Parliament for Asawase, Alhaji Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, who was until recently the Minister of Youth and Sports.

The Executive Members could not come to terms as to the fact that even though the Minister was cleared of all the allegations of financial malfeasance leveled against him, the Presidency failed to give back Alhaji Mubarak his position as the Sector Minister and rather appointed some one else to man the sector.

They were also aggrieved of rumors that the Minister was forced to resign against his will.

The statement appealed to all well-meaning NDC supporters to forgive the Executive Members for the inconvenience they caused the party as a result of their mass resignation.

It also apologized to the Ashanti Regional Police Command for the inability of some NDC supporters at Asawase to seek permit before embarking on a demonstration soon after the Executive Members had resigned.

"We wish to assure the Command that in future such occurrence would not be repeated".
