Francis Asenso-Boakye, Minister of Roads and Highways, has laid out the reasons for the Adenta-Dodowa road’s expansion.
The project, which seeks to transform the 22-kilometer stretch into a dual carriageway, is expected to enhance road capacity, safety, and efficiency.
Minister Asenso-Boakye highlighted that the current state of the Adenta-Dodowa Road is plagued by frequent accidents and severe traffic delays, primarily due to numerous minor road junctions and motorists making left turns and U-turns.
According to him, these issues have led to long traffic queues, causing a significant loss of productive hours and posing daily safety risks to commuters.
“The situation is further aggravated by numerous minor road junctions and a number of motorists undertaking left turns and U-turns. This results in long traffic queues, causing countless productive hours to be lost.
“The Adenta-Dodowa session has therefore become a daily safety hazard, with frequent accidents posing a risk to all who travel on the corridor. Today we are taking decisive steps to tackle these urgent challenges on the corridor.
“The project aims to transform this critical session and enhance its capacity, safety, and efficiency. The primary objective is to reduce travel time, improve mobility, and ensure safe and efficient transportation of goods and people. The scope of the project is comprehensive and includes the following: dualization of the 22 sessions to provide a more efficient flow of traffic,” he said.
Meanwhile, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo cut the sod on Thursday, August 8, 2024, to start construction of the project in the Adentan constituency.
This will transform the existing single-track Adentan-Dodowa road into a 22-kilometer dual carriageway with double lanes on each side, service lanes, and intersections to ease traffic congestion on the route.
Oswal Investments Limited, an indigenous Ghanaian enterprise, is constructing the inter-regional road project that will connect Ghana’s capital to the Eastern and Volta regions and beyond.
President Akufo-Addo said the move was part of his government’s comprehensive plan to improve major trunk roads across the country.
