Ashaiman, June 18, GNA - The Ashaiman Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Addison Adinortey Numo, has expressed his willingness to continue the implementation of policies and ongoing projects that his predecessor initiated to develop the municipality.

Mr Numo said he would continue the vision of the former administration to build Ashaiman into a 24-hour city, adding that "development is incremental and no single administration is the repository of all knowledge."

He made his intentions known on Thursday when he addressed the first ordinary meeting of the second session of the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly (ASHMA).

He, however, stated that despite the continuity in policies and projects, there would also be modifications, changes and redirection of focal points and areas of emphasis. The MCE indicated that his vision was to champion a new policy formulation and implementation to bring dynamism into the operations of the assembly.

To effectively mobilize revenue, he said, a revenue taskforce would be set up to identify untapped revenue sources in addition to the formation of a revenue monitoring unit to assist the legal department of the assembly to prosecute rate payment defaulters. Mr Numo further said there would be revaluation of properties and numbering of both existing and newly completed structures in the municipality to generate a data base.

He said that to improve upon sanitation, the Environmental Health and Sanitation Units of the assembly would step up its routine inspections to educate and or prosecute people who do not observe good health practices.

On the intended decongestion of the Ashaiman main market, the MCE noted that there was the need to decongest the street because traders have abandoned their sheds to sell on the streets creating pedestrians and vehicular traffic.

Mr Numo also announced that the assembly would embark on a massive demolition of unauthorised structures at the Ashaiman irrigation project site to enable farmers utilize the place for its intended purpose. Mr Emmanuel Niikoi Dsane, Presiding Member of the assembly called on heads of decentralised departments in the municipality to work as a team towards achieving the goal of developing the municipality. Mr Dsane also entreated the public to develop interest in the district assemblies' elections in order to elect qualified persons to represent their electoral areas at the assembly.
