Ashaiman notorious robbers jailed 50 years

Weeping and wailing took centre stage at the Ashaiman Circuit Court yesterday when two notorious armed robbers at Ashaiman who robbed a chemical drugs seller, Comfort Akpe, of her belongings were found guilty and sentenced to 50 years imprisonment in hard labour.

The two, Anthony Amevin Yaw, 19, and Michael Teye, 22, according to the Prosecutor, Chief Inspector Stella Odame, have been involved in series of robbery activities in the Ashaiman municipality

The court, presided over by Justice Mate Teye, found the two guilty on two counts of conspiracy to commit crime and robbery contrary to sections 23(1) AD 149 of the Criminal Offences ACT, 1960 (ACT 29) and robbery contrary to sections 149 of the Criminal Offences ACT 1960 (ACT 29) and convicted them accordingly.

The judge said the accused persons did not show remorse throughout the trials, adding that the two were involved in series of criminal activities pending before her court.

Presenting the case to the court, PChief Inspector Odame said the accused persons together with others, Dompe and Joe, who now were at large attacked Comfort Akpe and robbed her of her Samsung S5 valued at GH¢700.00 and a cash sum of GH¢74.00 at gun and knife points.

She further added that Anthony Amevin Yaw and Michael Teye, both of whom were unemployed and a driver’s mate on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at about 6:00 p.m., met at Ashaiman Unibank and conspired to embark on robbery at Community 25 near Golf City.

On reaching the complainant’s chemical shop near VRA yard, she noted that the accused persons alighted and entered the shop under the pretext of buying a drug.

She added that the accused persons went out and spied the area and returned to the shop and ordered the complainant to surrender all the monies at gunpoint.

She explained that the first accused person (Anthony Amevin Yaw) pointed the pistol at her while the second accused person went behind the counter, opened the drawer and withdrew all the monies it.

The robbers also collected the complainant’s Samsung S5 mobile phone and hurriedly sped off. In the process the first accused person’s seven rounds magazine loaded pistol with live ammunitions fell.

According to the prosecution, they were late arrested in connection with another robbery upon investigations.
