Mr Nicholas Osei-Bonsu, the Ashanti Regional Deputy Director of the Births and Deaths Registry, has stated that inadequate office staff is affecting its work in the Region.
He told the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi that in spite of the exigencies of its work to provide statistical records to aid economic planning, the office is making do with only 23 office staff for the entire 27 district in the Region.
Mr. Osei-Bonsu said the situation was unacceptable and needed to change to enable more people to register since data from their office also provides information to help clean the National Voters Register.
“Despite the constraints however, the staff show a lot of commitment and work extremely hard to meet set targets but the overall productivity would be boosted with adequate staffing”, he added.
Mr Osei-Bonsu mentioned other challenges hindering its smooth operation as inadequate budget allocation, lack of logistics such as desktop/laptop computers, vehicles and registration materials.
