Kumasi, Oct. 27, GNA - The roles and responsibilities of public relations officers (PROs) in the education sector are crucial for the effective implementation of the government's mew educational reform programme, Mr P.S. Adusei, Ashanti Regional Education Directorate's PRO, has said.

He said prompt and regular submission of reports was vital to enable education policy makers to adequately address some constraints and critical issues that affect quality teaching and learning. Mr Adusei was addressing district PROs of the education directorates in the Ashanti Region at a day's workshop on good report writing in Kumasi on Tuesday.

He stressed the need for the officers to create the needed awareness on access and participation in the promotion and development of quality education among the school structures and other stakeholders. Mr Adusei said when the communication gap on education policies and programmes between the district and the lower structures widens; it makes it impossible for the people to actively participate in programmes that would enhance quality education.

He urged the participants to adequately inform the regional and national headquarters so that pertinent issues affecting teaching and learning, especially, in the rural areas could be adequately addressed. Mr Samuel Anokye, the deputy Ashanti regional PRO, who led the participants through the quarterly and annual situational report writing format, advised them to be accurate, factual and concise.

Topics discussed included report writing on the district's finances, activities linked to the district budget, critical issues, achievements, constraints, projects, research findings and manpower position.

Others were school structures, syllabus development, courses and workshops, analysis of examination results, school enrolments and teachers, the district's mission and vision and the way forward. Mr Anokye called for regular interaction of the officers to discuss and share ideas for the improvement of the education sector.

Mr R.O. Aboagye, the Kumasi Metropolitan Education Directorate's PRO, who presided, advised his colleagues to forge ahead in unity and contribute meaningfully for the success of the new educational reform programme.
