Ashanti Region Mechanics To Offer Free Services To Gov't Vehicles

Kumasi, (Ashanti Region) 17 Oct., The Ashanti regional branch of the Ghana National Association of Garages (GNAG) is to provide free maintenance of government vehicles. Under the exercise dubbed ''Vehicle Reclamation Programme'', government departments are to provide the necessary spare parts for the repairs of broken down vehicles towed to the Light Industrial area of GNAG. Mr. Akwasi Abayie, spokesman for the Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the Ashanti GNAG, made this known at the association's regional delegates' conference which opened in Kumasi today. He spoke of plans to procure a Neoplan bus for the association to strengthen its financial base and set up a clinic in the Light Industrial area for mechanics. Mr. Abayie said 40 million cedis had been spent on the construction of the association's administrative block. Mr. Simon Acquah, acting National Chairman of GNAG, urged the mechanics to hold elections for a permanent regional executive committee. He called for unity and co-operation among the members and stressed the need for them to pay their taxes regularly. Mr. A. Z. Mohammed, the IMC chairman, pledged transparency in the administration of the association and to ensure that GNAG structures function effectively.
