Former Kumasi Mayor Michael Kojo Bonsu has declared that the Ashanti Region, a traditional stronghold of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), will not support the party in the upcoming December polls.

According to Kojo Bonsu, the NPP government has failed to fulfil numerous promises made to the region’s residents during previous campaigns.

Despite the region’s historical loyalty to the party, the NPP’s unfulfilled commitments have led to widespread disillusionment.

He highlighted the region’s lack of development despite being a key NPP base.

This perceived neglect has galvanized the people to withhold their support, serving as a stark reminder to the NPP that power lies with the electorate.

Meanwhile, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the running mate of NPP presidential candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, aims to secure 85% of the votes in the region.

Additionally, Opoku Prempeh has relocated the presidential campaign to the Ashanti Region to court support for Bawumia. How these efforts will impact the region’s voting decision remains to be seen.

The potential shift from the NPP in the Ashanti Region could significantly affect the party’s overall performance in the December polls.
