The Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council has announced plans to arrest cattle that destroy trees planted in the region, particularly those outside reserves.
Regional Minister Simon Osei Mensah highlighted that royal palms planted in the city are being damaged by cattle, resulting in significant losses to the state.
He emphasized that the council will not tolerate this destruction and will ensure that the cattle are detained and their owners fined before the animals are released.
In addition to addressing the issue of cattle, Mr. Mensah also condemned illegal mining activities that are devastating lands and reserves, calling for an end to these harmful practices.
Mr. Mensah made these remarks while speaking to the media at the Green Ghana Day event in Kumasi on Friday, where a target of planting 2.5 million trees in the region was set.
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, along with schools, churches, and various non-governmental organizations, participated in the tree-planting exercise.
