The Platform for Elite Teachers (PET) has petitioned the director general of Ghana Education Service and the Ghana Education Service Council to remove the current regional director of education from his post as a result of over-aging in office as a public officer in the country.

This was contained in a statement signed by Messrs Musah De-Graft Coleman and Samuel Owusu Kankam, Secretary and Chairman respectively of PET and addressed to the Chairman of GES Council and copied to the Presidency and other bodies, including the media.

The group questioned Mr. Sarfo Kantana's age in office "quite apart from issues raised about his age way back in or about 2012, when he was the regional director in charge of the Central Region”.

According to PET, if what it got from the central region was true that Mr. Sarfo Kantanka was born on 15th June, 1952 then he is in his second year of retirement and is still at post as GES worker, which to them is illegal.

Other things the group accused the director of included: politicizing issues of education and victimizing staff of GES in the region, using transfers as a weapon to cow and put fear into staff to enable him do his own bidding and attacking school heads on airwaves.

PET is an organisation formed within the teaching community, committed to addressing issues that confront the progress of humanity, especially the oppressed and helps in making education a vibrant mechanism to support national interest.

PET, headquartered in Kumasi, with branches in all the regions and districts, has been monitoring developments in the educational sector since its formation in 2001.
