Ashanti security agencies pledge to protect peace

Personnel of the security agencies in the Ashanti Region, on Thursday engaged in an endurance march in Kumasi, to highlight their preparedness to protect the nation’s peace.

Taking part were contingents from the military, Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Prisons Service and the Customs, Excise and Preventive Service.

They started the march that lasted more than two hours from the Regional Police Headquarters through some principal streets of the city.

Dr Kwaku Agyemang-Mensah, the Regional Minister, congratulated the security agencies for helping to make the December 7 elections, free and peaceful.

He pledged that government would support and adequately resource them to enable them to perform their duties professionally.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Augustine Gyenning, the Regional Police Commander, said the exercise was to assure the public of the readiness of the security agencies to deal with any security challenges.

It was to also strengthen the cooperation between the various security services and to boost their morale.
