Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa Assembly invests in development Projects

Isaac Odoom, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa has given the assurance that his constituents that the Assembly will invest more in development projects to better their lot.

He mentioned construction of Six Unit Classroom Block for Odoben Presbyterian and Brakwa Eshiem Schools, Community Water and Sanitation project (small town water System) for Odoben and Kuntanase currently under construction in the contract sum of GHS 3,454,753.28 being sponsored by the World Bank.

The rest are; Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound at Adumanu at GHS 190,896.40 and construction of a three Unit Classroom block at Ochisua also at GHS 180,580.68, of which work was progressing steadily.

Mr. Odoom who announced this at the Second Ordinary Meeting of the

Assembly at Breman-Asikuma said most of the projects were being funded from the Assembly's major source of funds, including; the Common Fund and the District Development Fund (DDF). He said, the Assembly had inaugurated a Six Unit Classroom Blocks it constructed for Odoben Presbyterian and Brakwa Eshiem School.

It had also repaired a dysfunctional grader that enabled the reshaping of roads from Fosuansa to Mante/Amanor to Jahadzi/Otabikwaa to commence after which it will move to Brakwa-Eduosia-Afofosu, Kuntanase-supuna/Akorakese and finally to Odoben-Nankese-Tweredua community roads.

“It is my expectation that, before the rains fully set in, most of the roads would have been re-shaped for free movement of goods and services”, he indicated.

The DCE charged the Assembly Members to take interest in projects being executed in their areas and own them as well.

The Assembly, he stated submitted priority projects and work plan for the utilisation of the 2014 DDF allocation which was in arrears, proposing to use such funds to complete all outstanding DDF projects and procure furniture for the District Education Service Directorate to be distributed to schools.

It will also procure 12 motor bikes for the Central Administration of the Assembly, Environmental Unit and the Education Directorate.

On finances, Mr. Odoom said at the end of the first quarter of this year, the Assembly was able to generate GHS 71,713.29 representing 19.9 percent of the targeted amount for the year ending December 31.2019.

Mr Odoom said People with Disabilities (PWDs) were supported with tool to undertake income generation activities to earn a living and it was the expectation of the Assembly to increase its revenue generation to achieve its target and tasked Assembly Members to vigorously sensitise their community members to honour their tax obligations.

The District Education Oversight Committee directed the Assembly to sponsor a district mock examination for all the 2,873 candidates of both Public and Private Junior High Schools in the District, Mr. Odoom stated.

He hoped that the exams will boost their confidence and help them to come out with flying colors during this year's Basic Education Certificate Examination.

Mr. Frank Aidoo, Presiding Member of the Assembly in his address urged members to put aside their political and personal interests and prioritise the welfare of the people who elected them.
