The Central Regional Deputy Minister, Mr. Aquinas Tawiah Quansah, has appealed to Assembly members who have been provided with motor bikes to wear their crash helmets at all times.
Mr. Quansah said this when he assisted the District Chief Executive, Mrs Georgina Nkrumah Aboah, to distribute 47 motor bikes to members of the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa (AOB) District Assembly at Breman Asikuma on Thursday.
He said the provision of Motorbikes to Assembly Members by the government under the leadership of President John Atta Mills, was to enable them to reach out to their people and also to attend meetings on time.
He said it was unfortunate to hear that some of the assembly members who had been given similar motorbikes, had given them away; a situation he said was unacceptable and reminded them that the development of the area must be their top priority.
The district chief executive for the area, Mrs Georgina Nkrumah Aboah, appealed to the Assembly members to use the bikes for the purpose for which they were procured, which is to enhance their work.
She said the provision of the bikes is a clear manifestation of the NDC government’s commitment to the deepening of local democracy, accelerating decentralization and local level development and empowerment.
Mr. Anthony Kobina Amoakoh, Presiding Member of AOB Assembly and Nana Afful Nyarkoin, Kruntihene of Breman Asikuma Traditional Area who chaired the programme, appealed to the assembly members to abide by the rules and regulations in the usage of the motorbikes to avoid any disaster.**
