Asikuma Police requests for DVVSU

Breman Asikuma (C/R) Feb, 3 GNA-The Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District Police Command has requested for the establishment of a branch of the Domestic Violence and Victim support Unit (DVVSU) in Breman Asikuma. This is to assist the police deal with the increasing rate of domestic violence cases against children and women in the area. Superintendent of the Police In Charge of the District, Mr. Mike Avadetsi made the request at this year's WASSA celebration, organised by the police service in the district at Breman on Friday.

He expressed worry about the upsurge of rape, defilement, spousal beating and neglect of child maintenance in the district, adding at this has increased the number of street children and juvenile delinquent cases.

Supt. Avadetsi commended the police in the district for their hard work, which led to the reduction in accident cases and crime wave in the area last year.

He said in 2005, 71 people were convicted for committing various offences against the state but this reduced to 56 in 2006. Supt. Avadetsi commended the people for supporting the police to ensure peace and stability in the area and asked the people to sustain the attitude.

He also appealed to supporters of the various political parties in the district to organize their activities peacefully to ensure peace. Supt. Avadetsi warned that any person who would take the law into his or her hand would be made to face the law.
