Ask Kissi Agyebeng – Godfred Dame on whether Cecilia Dapaah’s case is closed

Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame has deferred to Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng regarding the closure of the alleged money laundering case against former sanitation minister, Cecilia Dapaah.

Dame asserts that the Special Prosecutor, having returned the seized funds to Dapaah and found no evidence of money laundering, effectively has no case against her.

In a Joy FM interview on Thursday, May 2, Dame stated, "There was a clear report on the investigations by the Special Prosecutor. No direct and immediate evidence of corruption was found in the seized funds and a frozen bank account linked to Madam Cecilia Dapaah."

He suggested that inquiries about the conclusion of the investigation should be directed to the Special Prosecutor, who appears to have definitively closed the case due to lack of evidence.

The Attorney-General also remarked that the funds would not have been released to the former minister if they were still under investigation.

“So, indeed, the question that you’re asking me ought to be asked the Special Prosecutor…has he closed the investigations relating to Cecilia Dapaah? And my understanding from this is indeed he has come to a definite conclusion that there was no evidence and for that matter, the matter was closed,” he stated.

Meanwhile, John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, has announced intentions to reinvestigate the alleged money laundering case against Cecilia Dapaah if his government comes into power.

Following the Attorney-General's recommendation for the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to halt its investigation, Mahama criticized the decision, promising to address the alleged corruption and graft in Dapaah's case.

However, Dame criticized Mahama's statement, accusing him of "playing cheap politics" and lacking full knowledge of the case details.
