Asokore Traditional Council honours Nana Dr Asante

Asokore, (Ash), Dec. 17, GNA - The Asokore Traditional Council in the Sekyere East District of Ashanti Region, has organised a durbar to honour Nana Dr Susubiribi Krobea Asante, Paramount Chief of the area, at Asokore. It was in recognition of his national and international achievements, which have brought honour to the people and his contributions to the development of the area. He was also congratulated for being decorated as officer of the Order of the Volta by President John Agyekum Kufuor in July this year, which was for his contribution to public services and development to the Traditional area.

Nana Kodua Basoa, Nkosuohene of the area, reading a citation, commended Nana Dr. Asante, on his appointment to various positions at the World Bank and the United Nations, and as a member of the International Court of Arbitration and a distinguished international legal consultant. The citation also mentioned his appointment as Solicitor and Deputy Attorney General of Ghana from 1969 to 1977, as well as his appointment as Chairman of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission and immediate past President of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences. It said that Nana Dr. Asante has established Vocational/Technical Schools, supported the Ahmadiya Secondary School with 5,000 dollars, provided bursaries and scholarships for 300 needy students and teaching aids to a number of schools, in the area.

The citation said Nana Dr. Asante contributed to the building of post office, police station, community centre, health centre, library, district circuit court among others. Nana Dr. Asante commended the people for the honour done him and urged parents to send their children to school. He advised children to take advantage of opportunities being offered them to acquire knowledge and skills needed for national development. Nana Dr. Asante praised the people in the traditional area for conducting themselves peacefully in the December 7 elections and asked them to repeat that in the presidential run-off on December 28.
