Aspirant for NPP National Youth Organizer calls for action

Kumasi, Nov. 7, GNA - Mr Michael Ampong, an aspiring National Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called for an immediate action to redeem the image of the party. He said despite all the conspicuous socio-economic developments going on in the country and the commitment of the government towards education, the NPP was gradually becoming unpopular, especially among Ghanaian students due to the vile propaganda being carried by its opponent.

Speaking at a press conference in Kumasi on Saturday, Mr Ampong said it seemed the NPP leadership did not have an antidote to the vile propaganda or were bereft of ideas to control the situation. He attributed the situation to the neglect, rejection and the consequent frustration, disillusionment and despair of the NPP youth activists, particularly the known past TESCON members, adding that, this had been the source of disincentive and de-motivation of the successive generation in various institutions of higher learning. Mr Ampong said there was also a wider gap between the youth wing of the party and other student organs on campus and the foot soldiers of the party at the grass roots.

He said arrogance, pride, disrespect and enjoyment of power by some government and party officials was aggravating the problem. Mr Ampong said the risk and danger of loosing power in the 2008 elections was starring in the face of the party and called for immediate change to save the situation.

He said instead of using efficient strategies aimed at involving and empowering the youth and foot soldiers of the party to win votes, some leaders in the party had resorted to underachieving strategies. Mr Ampong said there was the need for men and women with boldness and vision to redeem the party from its present mess and appealed to the delegates to vote for him to bring the youth back into the fold.
