Kumasi, Nov. 20, GNA - Alhaji Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Asawasi, has challenged supporters of the Party in the constituency to be vigilant during the December elections. This, he said, was crucial in helping to curb electoral malpractices in view of what he alleged were attempt by a political party to rig the constituency elections.

Alhaji Mubarak was addressing a rally of the women's wing of the Party in the constituency at Aboabo Number Two in Kumasi. The parliamentary candidate, who is the incumbent MP for the area, alleged for instance that there were attempts by the NPP to transfer more illegal votes to the area to make up for the huge numerical advantage the NDC has over them. He said it behove on well-meaning activists of the Party to use all constitutional means to challenge voters, who they suspect to have been transferred to the constituency or those whose credibility were in doubt.

Alhaji Mubarak said it was only through such efforts that could ensure that the elections were conducted in a free, fair and transparent atmosphere to help catapult the NDC to a landslide victory. He promised to devote a chunk of his MP's common fund towards the development and progress of women and the aged as well as children, when given the mandate. He gave the assurance that he would continue to be fair to all stakeholders and constituents and that under no circumstances would he discriminate against the electorate based on one's religion, ethnic and tribal background. Hajia Hajara Lucky, a leading member of the women's wing of the Party, entreated women to vote in their numbers to choose a government of their choice and also stressed the need for mothers to admonish their children to stay off practices and activities that could be counter productive to their safety during the elections.
