Akropong-Akwapim,(Eastern Region) Oct. 21 District Assemblies have been called upon to advertise their tourism potentials to attract investors. Mr. Julius Debrah, project co-ordinator of Tourism Awareness Project, made the call at a meeting of the Akwapim North District Chief Executive, Mr. Anthony Gyampo with small-scale industrialists in the district who participated in the "DWAPA '97" trade and tourism fair in Koforidua recently. He said it was the mission of the Government to make tourism one of the leading foreign exchange earners for the country by the year 2020. Mr. Debrah said tourism tends to affect all sectors of the economy and that it is important that all districts contribute their quota towards tourism development. Mr. Gyampo said the district is interested in the development of conference tourism in addition to other cultural and natural facilities in the district. He assured small-scale industrialists in the district of the readiness of the assembly to use 20 per cent of its share of the common fund to help them expand their industries to promote trade and employment. Mr. Edward K. Ofori, Deputy District Co-ordinating Director, said the assembly has decided to link all the festivals in the district to its trade and tourism promotion as from next year.
