Assembly members and Chiefs asked to remove speed rumps

Kpetoe, June 09, GNA - Assistant Superintendent of Police Fred Lumor, the Volta Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) Commander, has directed Assembly members of the Adaklu-Anyigbe District to ensure that all unauthorized speed rumps were removed.

He said noncompliance would compel the police to hold chiefs in those areas responsible as a way of enforcing the law.

ASP Lumor gave the directive at the First General Meeting of the First Session of the Assembly at Kpetoe.

He said there were too many unauthorized speed rumps in the District and tasked the Assembly members to help ensure sanity on the roads.

"Almost all the rumps on your roads are unauthorized and without warnings to road users, a situation which is very suicidal and cannot be compromised," ASP Lumor said.

He said it was only the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) that has the authorization to construct speed rumps and urged communities which think they needed one to consult the GHA.

Mr Lumor said the Police had been conducting regular speed checks to reduce road accidents in the Region and called for the support of all especially Assembly members, opinion leaders and chiefs.

Mr Maama Sawyer Markwei, Volta Regional Director of the GHA, said the issue of unauthorized speed rumps was a big challenge to the Authority and called on the Assembly members to help.

He said the Authority was installing road signs on all new roads and those being rehabilitated and was hopeful that road accidents would soon go down.
