His Worship, Salifu Bugri Ayagiba, the District Magistrate for Sissala East and West Districts has warned Assembly members against taking advantage of their positions to interfere with the law.
Every now and then, you find some Assembly members knocking at our doors pleading on behalf of people who have cases at the court, he said.
His Worship Ayagiba noted that in the wake of investigative Journalists Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ expose on Judicial corruption, any act that have the tendency to undermine the law would not be tolerated.
The District Magistrate gave the warning while swearing in 30 elected and appointed members of the Sissala West District Assembly.
The total membership of the house comprises 21 elected members and nine government appointees.
Mr. Felix Neteege, Assembly member for Fielmuo Electoral Area was elected Presiding Member (PM) following two unsuccessful attempts.
Dr. Musheibu Mohammed Alfa, Deputy Upper West Regional Minister who represented President John Dramani Mahama, congratulated the Assembly members and urged them to represent the interest of the Assembly and the people and do away with their own personal interest.
He said government had done a lot to strengthen the decentralization process through the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) and others, adding that it would continue to provide the needed logistics to aid the effective functioning of the Assemblies.
He advised the Assembly members to take revenue collection seriously in order to strengthen the Internally Generated Funds (IGF) of the Assembly to enable them undertake self-funded projects.
Mr. Bukari Dramani, the District Chief Executive (DCE) urged the Assembly members to bring their expertise to bear on the work of the Assembly to bring about progress and development.
He said their common enemy was poverty and urged all Assembly members to show unity and commitment towards fighting the cancer.
