Techiman (B/A), Oct.10, GNA - Techiman Municipal Assembly at the weekend presented 1.5 million cedis to students of the Department of Land Economy of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Kumasi at Techiman. The 180 students were in Techiman as part of a field trip to familiarize themselves with activities of some selected Municipal and District Assemblies in connection with the annual celebrations of the Department.

Mr. Stephen Blighton, Planning Officer of the Assembly presenting the money, said the visit would help the Assembly improve on its land-planning programme. He said the Assembly had spent about 200 million cedis to evaluate new houses within the municipality. Mr Blighton appealed to the KNUST to collaborate with the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development to post students of the Department to the Assemblies to assist in their day-to-day administration.

Mr. Dominic Otomfo-Essel, Lecturer and Principal Technician of Building and Construction of the KNUST, appealed to the assemblies to encourage students in second cycle institutions to pursue courses in land economy at the universities to strengthen structures of land economy in the municipalities and districts. The Department presented two research reports on "Developing Land for Capital Accumulation" and "Overview of Land Economy with emphasis on property rating and the Ghana Land Administration", to the Assembly.
