Manso-Nkwanta (Ash), Dec 17, GNA - The Amansie West District Assembly in Ashanti has presented colour television sets to 25 basic schools in the district to promote the President's Special Initiative (PSI) on Distance Education. The TV sets are to help the pupils improve upon their knowledge in English, mathematics and science.

Speaking at the handing over ceremony of the sets at Manso-Nkwanta, Mr Ben Kwakye-Adeefe, the District Chief Executive, asked both pupils and teachers to see the presentation as an opportunity for them to improve upon their performance in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). He therefore cautioned the teachers not to keep the TV sets in their rooms as their personal properties since that will defeat the purpose of the PSI on distance education. Mrs Beatrice Ansah Prempeh, the District Director of Education, who received the items on behalf of the beneficiary schools, gave the assurance that they would be used for the purpose for which they were intended.

In a related development, the assembly has presented a cargo truck bought at the cost of 240 million cedis to the Amansie West Citronella Products Limited to facilitate the carting of the grass from farms to the processing plant. Mr Kwakye-Adeefe, the DCE, who made the presentation, also gave the assurance that electricity would soon be extended to the plant to enable it increase production.
