Kpetoe, June 9, GNA - The timely intervention of the Adaklu-Anyigbe District Assembly saved teachers and students of Akwetey Junior High School (JHS) from ejection from their rented classroom that used to be a store.

Pleas by Mr Michael Kobla Adzaho, the District Chief Executive, prevented the owner of the property from carrying out the ejection after the School had used the facility for years.

Mr Adzaho, who was briefing the First General Meeting of the First Session of the Assembly, said an opinion leader in the community gave the facility to be used freely as a classroom but when he died his children decided to rent it to the School.

He described the situation as, 93unacceptable" and that the Assembly was fast-tracking the construction of a three-unit classroom with office, store, and a library for the School in three months.

"We quickly had to take this decision because the facility has no windows and you can just imagine how our children are suffering," Mr Adzaho said.

He outlined numerous projects being undertaken in the District especially education infrastructure.

Mr Adzaho said the Assembly was supporting the District Education Directorate to revive the celebration of the Best Teacher Award and facilitating the construction of a District Education Office so the Directorate would move from its rented premises.

He called on the Assembly members to give maximum support to the Assembly to achieve its target of accelerated development in all sectors. Mr Adzaho said the previous Assembly was 93peaceful and progressive" and appealed to members of the new Assembly to do more to justify the confidence reposed in them.

He commended all workers in the District for their meritorious services and urged them to do more.

"The Environmental Office must wake up to ensure that our environment is tidy," Mr Adzaho stressed.

He said the District had been selected with two others to benefit from Eco-Tourism Centre and that the area was gradually becoming a major tourist destination.

Mr Adzaho appealed to the Assembly members to help in mobilizing revenue for the Assembly.

Earlier, Madam Mary Tsigbey, Presiding Member of the Assembly urged the members to provide leadership that will ensure socio-economic development of the District.
