Nkawie (Ash), March 19, GNA - The Atwima District Assembly has set up a committee to re-examine the activities of Area Councils in the district.

Mr Peter Yaw Mensah, District Chief Executive, said this in his sessional address at the first ordinary meeting of the Assembly at Nkawie. He noted that, the Assembly has problems implementing directives of the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development on Area Councils.

The main problem is the inability of the councils to generate enough funds to pay staff and even have some for development. The DCE said salaries of their staff have been outstanding for a long time. He spoke of plans to upgrade the Abuakwa Health Centre into a polyclinic next year but regretted that it may not get all the structures needed because of lack of space.

The DCE said some of the structures, may be shifted to Akropong, a community within the district. He said information given during the Population and Housing Census, would be confidential and called on Assembly Members to encourage the people to co-operate enumerators.

Mr Mensah urged politicians to ensure that, their campaign for presidential and parliamentary elections this year peaceful.
