Awutu-Beraku (C/R), Sept. 1, GNA - The Awutu-Senya District Assembly is spending about 1,950.00 Ghana Cedis per month on office accommodation, leaving less money available for other development projects.

The District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Nuhu Adams, made this known at the First Ordinary Meeting of the Second Session of the Assembly at Awutu-Beraku.

He said the traditional authorities pledged the Osaka building as an administrative block for the assembly, but proper documentation had not been made.

It was therefore necessary for the Assembly to rent apartments for both the district administration and other decentralized departments, such as the Ghana Education Service (GES), District Health Directorate, Environmental Health, National Service Secretariat, and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), he said. The DCE said when the new district was created it should have been given some seed money to facilitate its work, but that no such money was given to the Assembly.

"My administration is making frantic efforts to get out seed money from the Ministry of Local government to enable us to put up office and residential accommodation".

On education, the DCE said the district which is close to the national capital, Accra, and also the gateway to the Central Region, still has children studying under trees.

He said most school buildings are also dilapidated and that efforts were being made to rehabilitate them while MiDA is also about to put up 20 new school buildings in the district. Mr Adam commended PLAN Ghana for its massive support for the development of educational infrastructure in the area. 1 Sept. 09
