Assemblyman Appeals For Poverty Alleviation

Thu, 26 Jun 1997 Source: --

Kwamo (Ash), June 20, - An assemblyman has appealed to the Ejisu/Juaben District Assembly to provide assistance under the Poverty Alleviation package to organised women's groups at Kwamo. Mr Patrick Anane Ofori, Assemblyman for Kwamo made the appeal yesterday when he led newsmen to inspect work of the women's groups at Kwamo. Mr Ofori regretted that the groups' operation and output had gone down in recent times because of their inability to get financial assistance to expand their trade to meet local market needs. He said apart from the two women's groups, members of the Snail Rearers' Association were equally in need of financial support to enable them to expand their projects and promote snail farming in the community. Mr Ofori urged the assembly to consider investing in the production and export of cassava chips since the Kwamo area abounds in cassava. He said this would help solve the problem of post-harvest losses due to lack of marketing opportunities.
